Jindaichi – Whole Great Earth

Our Zen Community in Canterbury consists of people from all walks of life and various religious or non-religious backgrounds who come together regularly to support and strengthen one another in their Zen practice.

We are part of the Wild Goose Zen Sangha in the UK, which belongs to the world-wide White Plum Asangha Zen lineage. Our teacher is Marcus Averbeck (Hozan Sensei).

Our common purpose is to practice strong Zazen and the integration of Zen in daily life.

  • Strong Zazen involves both discipline and beauty.

  • The discipline of Zazen is a wakeful posture and sitting still.

  • The beauty of Zazen is a mind that is open, attentive, fresh, vital, and sensitive. The body-mind is awake and alert in the present moment without preoccupation with thoughts, concepts, or images.

  • Integration of Zen in daily life is living fully with appreciation, freedom, and compassionate action.
